Parents as Teachers
Parents as Teachers is a nationally recognized program where a parent educator goes into the home of new or expecting parents and teaches them what to expect as their child develops. This program is based upon the philosophy that a child's parents are his or her's first and most important teachers. Parents as Teachers receives a large number of referrals from Protection & Permanency, schools and other community partners. Research shows this program increases school readiness and can be a factor in preventing child abuse. Expectant families and families with children ages birth to five years receive personalized home visits from a certified "Parents as Teachers" educator. Parents are also invited to attend monthly group meetings.
